Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
