A extended cruise circling Australia was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the group for a break. The ship left without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A major search operation found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that guests and personnel on the vessel were told that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated statement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

The liner initially left the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or snorkeling.

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left the island after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a hiking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have saved Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the ship sailed away, apparently without performing a headcount.

Operator Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with investigators to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the family.
